Granite Park is exactly like it sounds, an amphitheater of sharp granite peaks at 11,000 feet. It feels like you're in an arena straight out of Mordor. I shot this photo near our camp on a recent backpacking trip. The outlet of the lake where the water was completely still, separated from the lake by a band of rocks, allowed for this amazing reflection. A classic High Sierra scene. When I poked my head out of my tent, at dawn, I was filled with excitement. The early morning air was still and the clouds were lighting up. I ran around the lake we camped next to, snapping photos as the clouds turned from grey to pink to orange and then to a golden hue as the sun rose.
